SILVER & GOLD PLATED, ENGRAED 1st Model S&W .32 Safety Hammerless
5-Shot “LEMONSQUEEZER” Revolver w/PEARL GRIPS
Here we present a C&R Engraved Silver & Gold Plated 1st Model Smith & Wesson .32 Caliber Double Action Safety Hammerless Revolver, made circa the circa 1890. Production ran from 1888 through 1902 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a serial number range of 1 through 91417. This one received special treatment at the factory with scroll engraving with a punchdot background throughout. The entirety received silver plating and was then accented with gold.
This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster around the turn of the 20th Century. This revolver features an internal hammer design to remove risk of snagging or stopping the action. There is a grip safety built into the back of the grip frame. The frame is a top-break design that activates the automatic ejector. These are very nice features from the turn of the 20th Century! They were known as “The New Departure” to reflect the company’s new approach to designing revolvers.
The overall condition is fine. Virtually all of the original silver finish remains with a good amount of the original gold finish such as in cylinder flutes, on the trigger guard, at the base of the front sight. The action is excellent and the bore is in fine condition: bright with sharp rifling. The mother of pearl grips are solid and in great shape. Numbers match. This is a handsome antique S&W 1st Model .32 that will be a great piece in any collection!
