Signed JAPANESE Sword Blade with DECORATIVE CARVING and SHIRASAYA Fittings
With SIX SYMBOL SIGNATURE on the Side
Here we present a Signed Japanese Sword Blade with Decorative Carvings and Shirasaya Fittings. You will not see an army today winning any battles with a Japanese blade such as this. Likewise, you will not see katana duels on the streets. Although in the past the katana has been the deciding factor of many battles, today we tend to stick with guns, bombs and the like. It is odd, then, that to this day everyone knows what a katana looks like, and most people have at least some respect for it. In fact, the katana seems to be growing in popularity as the years go on.
This example has a live edge with wavy hamon and gilt copper habaki, and a set of asymmetrical bo-hi grooves are present, a simple pattern of two on the right side and a more elaborate carving of a serpent wrapped around a blade on the left. The tang shows three mekugo-ana and a six symbol signature on the left side. The blade has shirasaya fittings.
The overall condition is good. Straight, bright blade. Small nicks to the edge and the point. The grip shows use and has a four inch split on the right side. The scabbard shows much use.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
