“N. Hawk” PENNSYLVANIA LONG RIFLE .45 PIONEER FRONTIER HOMESTEAD PA Antique
w/ “FORD BROTHERS” Lock
Here we present an antique Full Stock Pennsylvania Long Rifle, made circa the mid-1800s. This rifle has a Ford Brothers lock with a single, non-set trigger. Pointed finial on the bronze patchbox, which is opened by a button on the top of the butt plate. The barrel is a 20th Century replacement that is signed “N. Hawk”. This may be the former owner’s name, but it also may be a reference to the well-known PA gunmaker, Nicholas Hawk (1782-1844), who was a gunmaker in Gilbert, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.
The overall condition is good. Brown finish on the barrel. Strong action. The barrel is a replacement with the “N. Hawk” signature. Bore is in good shape and will clean up well. The stock has a thin repaired split in front of the lock and a stable split in the ramrod channel near the muzzle. Absent ramrod. This has a uniquely shaped patchbox on the right and a stag on the left.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 37-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .45 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
