MASSACHUSETTS State Contract WHITNEY Model 1812 .69 Caliber MUSKET Antique
Flintlock to Percussion Conversion
Here we present an antique Whitney Model 1812 Musket, manufactured circa 1812 and 1816 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1812 by Whitney served as the basis for the US Model 1816 that would be the standard infantry musket for about the next 25 years in US military service. This one was made for the state of Massachusetts’ militias. It bears the view mark of government inspector Luther Sage on the left stock flat and “MS” for Massachusetts State. The barrel is also proofed. The stock is littered with “W.J.R.” stamps. This one was converted in a simple manner by plugging the holes for the original flintlock hardware (frizzen and spring) and grinding down the brass flash pan, installing a drum-type nipple bolster, and commercial hammer.
The overall condition is good. Excellent action. Good, clear bore. The stock is solid with a cartouche on both left and right side (Cracks around the lock and side plate are stable).
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 42 inches.
Caliber: .69 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
