Manufacture FRANCAISE D’ARMES French Gaulois No. 1 PALM SQUEEZER Pistol C&R
Pistol Design from Turn of the Century France
Here we present a rare C&R “GAULOIS” No. 1 Palm Pistol, made circa the turn of the century by Manufacture Francaise St. Etienne Armes Et Cycles with a production run between 1893 and 1912. The Gaulois was a compact, squeeze-type palm pistol made for self-defense in late 19th Century France. The name “GAULOIS” refers to the Gallic ethnicity of those in France. It held 5 rounds of 8mm and is fired by squeezing the rear grip into the body of the gun. The design was successful, but short-lived as semi-automatic pistols became just as small, and perhaps more effective and reliable. This followed the same trend as other types of palm pistols of the period, such as the “Protector”, which also originated in France. Nevertheless, here is an oddity that will be the talking piece of your collection.
The overall condition is good. Original finish. Strong action. Bright bore. Legible markings. The grip is missing a chip at both ends.
