LIEGE PROOFED Antique BRASS Barrel Boxlock .50 Percussion POCKET/MUFF
Liege Proofed Mid-1800s BRASS CANNON BARREL Pistol
Here we present an antique Belgian Boxlock Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1850s in Belgium and is Liege proofed. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of Europe during the 1800s. This pistol is small, light and simple.
The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were “Gentleman’s” or “Muff Pistols”, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. It is elegantly engraved on the sides of the frame.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. The grip is a replacement and is seated firmly against the frame with very little wear. The barrel has a scaled appearance.
