Very Nice Militia Era Private Purchase
Here we present an antique American Cavalry Saber, made circa the early-19th Century. It has a beautiful wide blade that features gold accented patriotic etching on a niter blue field, a gilt brass hilt, a bone grip, and a leather scabbard. This would have been a private purchase for an officer under the militia system which was how the United States’ organized its military before the American Civil War.
The overall condition is good. Straight blade with the original fire blue and gold finishes. Solid hilt with gold finish on the brass handguard. Some chipping to the bone near the pommel of the grip. The leather scabbard shows some crackling but is in overall good shape for its age.
