BELGIAN Antique MARIETTE PATENT Underhammer RING Trigger Perc. PEPPERBOX
LEIGE PROOFED 1850s Revolving Self Defense Pistol
Here we present an antique Belgian Mariette Brevette Ring Trigger/Under Hammer Percussion Pepperbox Revolver. This firearm was made circa the 1850s in Liege, Belgium, known for centuries now as one of the foremost firearms capitals of the world. It was expressly made for self-defense, giving the shooter 4 shots of .31 caliber without having to cock a hammer. Gilles Mariette was an arms manufacturer in Liege and was active between 1832 and 1865.
Pepperbox revolvers were so named because of the similarity of the front view of the weapon was very much the look of a Pepper Pot of the time being a circle of round holes. This is a nice example of an underhammer percussion Pepper box revolver. The removable barrels are made of high quality Damascus Steel. The body and back strap of the revolver is fully engraved. The under hammer ring trigger rotates the barrels to the next chamber in a double action motion. This
revolver very closely resembles the U.S. maker Blunt & Syms in style, but this revolver was actually made in Liège, Belgium. The barrels can be “turned off” with a key that fits into the end of the barrels for quick loading.
The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. The bores are in good shape. Both grips are good. Sharp engravings. Markings are legible. Liege proofed.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
