Antique CAVALRY Style Saber w/BRASS HILT & Checkered WOOD GRIP
Sword Possibly Imported from Europe
Here we present an antique Civil War Era Non-Regulation American Military Cavalry Style Sword, made circa the late 1850s to the early 1860s. The blade is 35 inches with an overall length of 40-1/2 inches. This sword would possibly have been used in the American Civil War and the Spanish American War later in the century.
Some of these types of swords were produced by various German makers and exported here for sale by military goods dealers selling to officers, who were obliged to acquire their own arms, uniforms, and equipment. This has a brass hilt and checkered wood grip, making it the weapon preferred by soldiers for service in the field.
The overall condition is good. Dark blade patina. A slight bend is present about 6 inches up from the hand guard. Solid hilt. Markings are legible. “X/219” is marked on the hand guard.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
