1876 Antique BABY RUSSIAN SMITH & WESSON 1st Model .38 Caliber S&W Revolver
WILD WEST Antique Single Action Revolver!
Here we present an antique 1st Model Smith & Wesson “Baby Russian” .38 S&W Single Action Revolver, made circa 1876-77 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Smith & Wesson First Models were produced from 1876 to 1877 and was Smith & Wesson’s first .38 caliber revolver. The first model of the .38 Single Action can be identified by its smooth barrel (lacking fluting), and the long extractor shroud similar to the Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian pistol, which lent it the nickname “Baby Russian”. It had a spur trigger and lacked a trigger guard. Models were available in blued or nickel-plated finishes, and the majority were produced with 3-1/4 inch or 4-inch barrels, although barrels as long as 7 inches were sold. Serial numbers range from 1 through to 25,548 between 1876 and 1877. Total production of all models of the S&W .38 Single Action exceeded just over 223,000.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish with blued accents and some silvered case colors. The numbers match. The action is excellent. The bore is mostly reflective with some light scattered pits. The grips are in great shape. A very nice S&W Baby Russian!
