CHISELED CARVED SILVER MOTHER of PEARL Inlaid HORN Tipped FLINTLOCK Pirate
Gorgeous Workmanship, High Condition
Here we present an antique Flintlock Pistol with Carved, Horn Tipped Stock, Wire & Mother of Pearl Inlay, and Engravings, made circa 1800. This is a full-sized pistol that could have been worn on the belt and was certainly made for fighting. It has a .58 caliber smooth bore with a full-length stock. The stock and the false ramrod—the false ramrod generally a convention of the eastern Mediterranean under Ottoman influence—are tipped in horn. The stock is fully carved with vining scroll and floral motifs with silver wire inlay at the grip and mother-of-pearl circles and diamonds in the center of flowers along the forestock. The barrel, pommel, trigger guard, side plate and ramrod tubes are engraved and much of it embellished with silver. This pistol is of quality craftsmanship and was certainly a status symbol. This was likely the property of a wealthy merchant or perhaps even a pirate.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent and smooth. The bore is bright and smooth. The stock is in great shape and solid.
