SCARCE Antique W.P. MARSTON 1876 Patent Single Shot TORONTO, CANADA Rifle
RARE CANADIAN GUN Chambered in .44-40 Centerfire
Here Ancestry Guns presents a scarce antique W.P. Marston 1876 Patent Single Shot Rifle made circa the late 1870s to the early 1880s in Toronto, Canada. William Phillip Marston was a gunsmith who operated at 132 Yonge Street in Toronto beginning as early as 1820 with his shop continuing all the way through the turn of the century. In his earlier years, Marston produced a very limited number of his earlier percussion rifles with the number unknown and even less of these centerfire breech loaders. Marston’s guns are known to be of very high quality whose legacy continues to be recognized in the firearms community.
This piece has “MARSTON” marked on the lockplate with “W.P. MARSTON TORONTO PAT. JULY. 12. 1876” marked in one line on the top barrel flat and in two lines on the bottom of the frame along with the serial number.
The overall condition is good. Original mixed gray and brown patinas. Strong action. The bore maintains serviceable rifling with a semi-bright appearance. Markings are legible. Smoothed wrist checkering. The stock is solid overall with average handling wear.
