DESIRABLE Antique Flintlock SWORD PISTOL w/Brass Guard & CLAMSHELL LANGUET
Late 1700s to Early 1800s with HORN GRIP
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Desirable & Scarce Brass Hilted Flintlock Sword Pistol made circa the late 1700s to the early 1800 likely in London, England as there are two British proofs on the barrel at the breech. This example measures 30-3/4” overall. The heart of the weapon is a cannon-barreled boxlock flintlock pistol fitted with a horn grip. This example is fitted with a clamshell languet. It has a brass pommel cap with a combination trigger guard and D-pattern knuckleguard. The blade is 26” long with double fullers and is integrated into the pistol frame. The flash pan and frizzen are mounted to the left ricasso.
Single barrel sword/pistol combinations like this are fairly uncommon, if not rare. With the exception of some made in England, as is this example, most carried no maker markings at all. Belgium and Germany were the main source of these types on the European Continent.
The overall condition is good. The blade consists of dark and light gray patinas. Solid handguard. Aesthetically pleasing aged brass. Good grip with light chipping and has some wiggle around the tang. On this example, the trigger needs manually set by pushing it forward. Good bore for its age. Faint proof markings on the right barrel.
