Product Description
YUGOSLAVIAN M59/66 “PAPOVKA” 7.62mm SKS Semi-Auto Rifle C&R FOLDING BAYONET
ZASTAVA ARMS Semi-Automatic MILITARY Rifle
Here we present a C&R Yugoslavian Model 59/66 Semi-Automatic Rifle manufactured by Zastava Arms in Zastava, Yugoslavia with a production run between 1961 and the mid-1980s. The Zastava M59/66 PAP, also known as “papovka”, is a Yugoslav licensed version of Soviet SKS semi-automatic rifle. The nickname “papovka” is derived from PAP, the abbreviation for “poluautomatska puška”, which is Serbian for “semi-automatic rifle”.
The M59/66 remained in service with military and security forces in Yugoslavia until the dissolution of that country in 1991, although by that time it had been largely superseded by the M70 assault rifle, a Yugoslav derivative of the Soviet AK-47. Due to the availability of surplus M70s and other Kalashnikov-pattern rifles during the Yugoslav Wars, the M59/66 vanished from active service in Yugoslavia’s various successor states during the 1990s.
Zastava Arms was founded in 1853 when it cast its first cannon. It is the leading producer of firearms in Serbia and is a large contributor to the local defense industry. Zastava Arms produces and exports a wide variety of products to over forty countries, including the popular Zastava Model 70 Kalashnikov rifle.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Strong action. Bright, sharply rifled bore. The Markings are legible. Numbers bolt, receiver, magazine and buttstock match. Import marked “Cherrys GSO, NC”. Thick layer of Cosmoline around most moving parts for preservation but gives the action some resistance.
