WORLD WAR II German ERMA ERFURT Arsenal “S/27” Code 1936 Date M98 Rifle C&R
WW II German Military INFANTRY Bolt Action Rifle
Here we present a C&R German Erma Erfurt Arsenal “S/27” Code “1936” Dated Model 98 Bolt Action Rifle from Erma Gewehrfabrik made in 1936 in Erfurt, Germany. The Erfurter Maschinenfabrik (ERMA) was a German weapons manufacturer founded in 1922 by Berthold Geipel. Prior to and during World War II it manufactured many firearms, including the Karabiner 98k, the MP40 and other submachine guns.
In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles. At the start of World War II, the Führer demanded that the factory produce 70,000 Mauser rifles a month, and it delivered them with the help of 5,000 forced laborers from across Europe.
The overall condition is good. Some original blue has been preserved. Robust action. Bright bore and nicely rifled. The stock is solid as refinished/varnished. Cleaning rob is absent. Markings are legible. “1936” dated receiver.
