War of 1812 Era Antique ENGRAVED British BARBER & BOALER FLINTLOCK Pistol
Early 19th Century Big Bore “MANSTOPPER”
Here we present an antique British Barber & Boaler Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early-19th Century. Isaac Barber and Robert Boaler were successful gunsmiths in Newark (Nottingham), England during the very early part of the 19th century. Isaac Barber was active alone from 1773 until 1804, when he went into partnership with Joseph Boaler. They continued as “Barber and Boaler” until 1819, when the London Gazette reported the dissolution of his partnership. Examples of their mutual workshop can be found bearing “Barber & Boaler,” with most of their work marked “Newark”, as is this one, though some of their work was marked “London”.
This pistol is of martial size and caliber. It features a handsome twist pattern barrel that begins octagonal and transitions to round. Birmingham proofs. .62 caliber. Nice checkered grip and a full length stock securing the barrel by wedges.
The overall condition is very good. Wonderfully strong action. Clean and smooth bore in good shape (does contain oil residue). Very good stock/grip with sharp checkering and contains minor dents and dings. There is a short stable crack on the right side of the fore stock. Sharp markings. Original flintlock. A fantastic example of a higher craftmanship of fighting pistol than is usually seen.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 9-1/8 inches.
Caliber: .62 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
