CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH Era RIVERBOAT GAMBLER’s Gun
Here we present an antique Engraved Gillespie Deringer Style Percussion Pistol, made circa the late 1840s-1860s in New York City. George Gillespie was a gun maker in the late 1840s into the mid to late-1860s and had his shop on Warren Street in New York. Gillespie and many others copied the Henry Deringer style of pistol. Gillespie marketed his guns in NYC from the 1850’s through a bit after the Civil War. The Civil War brought new technology to weapons and copies of the Deringer pistol, like this one, proliferated.
The overall condition is good. Lightly refinished barrel. The action is excellent. The bore is in good shape with good rifling. The wood shows minor evidence of handing, but a crack wraps the grip and is stable.
