Here we present a World War I-Dated DWM Luger Model 1914 Imperial German Military Pistol, made in 1918 in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.

The leather holster is marked “6. A.R. 7. 44.” This is the mark of the 6^th Mountain Battery, 7^th Artillery Regiment, Gun 44. The top of the chamber is dated “1918”, very probably produced before the Treaty of Versailles. The top of the toggle is marked with DWM’s monogram. Imperial German Army proof marks are located on the right side of the gun, the left side of the barrel, and the toggle. This example is unit marked on the front grip strap: “LS. T. 12.” This may be the mark of the Police School at Trier. This pistol was almost certainly used by the German military during World War I. After the war, it is completely plausible that this pistol was used by a Police force. Whatever the history of this pistol, it is a great and interesting example and certainly worthy of a good collection.

The overall condition of this piece is fine. The metal surfaces retain 80% of their original finish. The serial numbers match on the all the metal parts. The grips and magazine do not match. The grips are in very good condition. The bore is excellent, well-rifled and shiny. The action is also excellent.
