Product Description

Unique SKELETONIZED-STOCK Percussion LONG RIFLE .45 Caliber OCTAGONAL BBL

Virtually Indestructible Frontier Long Arm!

Here we present an antique All-Steel Percussion Long Rifle with a Skeletonized Butt Stock, made circa the mid-19th Century. This rifle’s maker aimed to make something almost totally unique. This is a full-length, .45 caliber long rifle without a splinter of wood to it. It is long but compact in every other dimension, and it would have been almost indestructible under normal or even hard use conditions. The “long rifle” was the weapon or tool of choice for people living in the American frontier from the 18th through the mid-19th century. One could feed and protect himself and his family. While long rifles were ubiquitous, they were made of wood and many would break at the wrist with such a hefty barrel. This one would not have been susceptible to this weakness. It may have also made the gun a little lighter as it weighs about 8 ½ pounds.

There is some light engraving on the frame of the box lock. Unfortunately, if there was a maker’s mark it is no longer visible. There is a threaded aperture on top, which may have been a strain screw for the mainspring inside or perhaps even a spot for an aperture sight.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. Very nice bore for age and use with great rifling. Very likely a one-of-a-kind piece that would have been the dependable tool a frontiersman would have needed.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 33-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .45 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
