TURN of the CENTURY Long Barrel J. STEVENS A&T .22 Tip-Up POCKET Rifle C&R
PART OCTAGON BARREL Target/Plinking .22 Rimfire
Here we present a C&R J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company Single Shot Pocket Rifle, manufactured around the turn of the century in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Stevens, well known for its Tip-Up Pistols, Boy’s Rifles, and Sporting Rifles, got its start in Chicopee Falls at the closing years of the Civil War in 1864. Stevens Arms was founded by Joshua Stevens with help from backers W.B. Fay and James Taylor in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, in 1864 as J. Stevens & Co. Their earliest product was a tip-up action single shot pistol.
About 15,000 of these pocket rifles were produced between 1896 and 1916. This pistol was considered one of the most accurate target pistols of the day. It features a 15-inch bull barrel and a weighted pommel for balance. The action is single action only with a crisp trigger.
The overall condition is good. Some original nickel plating. Strong action. The bore is mostly bright with serviceable rifling and lightly frosted at the breech. Both grips are good with average handling wear. Markings are legible, but worn. Visible numbers.
