TACK DECORATED Mid-1800s Antique 16 Gauge Half Stock PERCUSSION Shotgun
Kentucky Style Mid-1800s Large Bore FOWLING Piece
Here we present an antique Native American Style Tack Decorated Half Stock Percussion Fowling Piece, made circa the mid-19th Century. Its stout part octagonal barrel is in 16 gauge, made primarily as a fowling piece or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression.
This possibly could have been exported from England to a country like the United States with a thriving market for all sorts of firearms. As people moved West and settled in remote areas, hunting was especially important to put food on the table and for protecting the homestead. This would have been a great gun for hunting geese on a cold winter day.
The action does not function on this example more than likely due to a missing main spring. The finish is matte black, and paint like with a chalkboard feel. The bore is dark and in good shape. Solid stock. Comprised of mixed antique replacement parts.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 37 inches.
Caliber: 16 Gauge
