Product Description

STAG CARVED Stock Antique EURO Percussion DOUBLE BARREL SxS HAMMER Shotgun

Ornate German Silver, Carved, Engraved 14 Gauge

Here we present an antique European Percussion Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Shotgun with a Stag Carved into the Stock, made circa the early-19th Century. It also has fish shaped and engraved locks with “CANONS RUBANS D’ACIER” in gold on the rib of the barrels. “Canons Ruban” is a method of barrel making 1st developed in the late 1700s in France. It involves the forming of ribbons (Rubans) from a sheet of iron into a tube and then moving onto other elements later in the process.

The “D’ACIER” refers to steel. The method was believed to make comparatively strong barrels when put up against other methods commonly used. Engraved German silver hardware throughout. This would have been a good gun for fowl hunting.

The overall condition is good. The action is strong on both sides. The bores are in good shape. There is a dent in the left barrel/bore and the muzzles are slightly dinged up. The stock is beautifully carved in the likeness of a stag on the bottom of the butt stock. The stock has been repaired/grafted all around the lock/breech area. Here is a ready display piece for the mantle.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are 30 inches.

Caliber: 14 Gauge Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
