SPANISH CIVIL WAR Jose Luis MAQUIBAR “ONENA” 9mm LARGO Bolt Action CARBINE
Built for Arming SPANISH CIVILIANS During the Spanish Civil War
Here we present a Jose Luis Maquibar “Onena” 9mm Largo Bolt Action Carbine. Research indicates the there was much variability in these carbines, due to the fact that they were all hand crafted circa the mid-1930s. They were patterned after the Destroyer Carbine, which was a small, bolt action carbine chambered in the 9mm Largo cartridge, which was used by Spanish police and prison services including the Guardia Civil. This Maquibar (PM) carbine was a very handy little repeating carbine in pistol caliber. The PM before the serial number is the maker’s mark. These carbines are very scarce and hard to come by. This carbine would have been used during the massive and devastating internal conflict of the Spanish Civil War, which is seen by many as a prelude to World War II.
The action is strong, with a smooth bolt pull. The magazine and the extractor are absent. The bore is semi-bright with nice rifling. This example has seen quite a bit of traffic on the right side of the stock, but all remains solid and stable. Here is a very lightweight carbine, 4lbs 8oz, that is a really interesting piece of history!
