SMITH & WESSON .38 M&P Pre-Model 10 Double Action .38 SPECIAL Revolver C&R
Nice Blued Finish Revolver with WALNUT GRIP
Here we present a C&R Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Pre-Model 10 Double Action Revolver manufactured circa 1948-51 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Smith & Wesson Model 10, previously known as the Smith & Wesson .38 Hand Ejector Model of 1899, the Smith & Wesson Military & Police, and the Smith & Wesson Victory Model, is a K-Frame revolver of worldwide popularity. In production since 1899, the Pre-Model and Model 10 are a six-shot, .38 Special, double-action revolver with fixed sights. Over its long production run it has been available with barrel lengths of 2”, 2.5”, 3”, 4”, 5”, and 6”. Barrels of 2.5 inches are also known to have been made for special contracts. Some 6,000,000 of the type have been produced over the years, making it the most popular handgun of the 20th century.
During World War II, Smith & Wesson quit producing these revolvers so they could support the war effort. After the war, Smith & Wesson returned to manufacturing the M&P series like this example, referred to as the .38 Military & Police Pre-Model 10. In 1957, Smith & Wesson adopted the convention of using numeric designations to distinguish their various models of handguns, and the M&P was renamed the Model 10.
