Here we present a C&R Smith & Wesson 1st Model .32 Caliber Double Action Safety Hammerless Revolver, made circa the turn of the century with a production run of 1888 through 1902 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a serial number range of 1 through 91417. The Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless models were produced from 1887 (1888 for the 32) to just before World War II.
This revolver was made to be a simple, compact and reliable firearm that one could carry in a pocket or a holster around the turn of the 20th Century. This revolver features an internal hammer design to remove risk of snagging or stopping the action. They were known as “The New Departure” to reflect the company’s new approach to designing revolvers.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish. Excellent action. Bright bore with nice rifling. Markings are legible. Both grips contain an average amount of handling wear from use. Numbers match.
