SCOTTISH CASED & ENGRAVED Antique McCRIRICK Side by Side PERCUSSION Shotgun
Made Mid-1800s AYR, AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND
Here we present an antique Cased & Engraved J. McCririck Percussion Double Barrel Side by Side Shotgun, made circa the mid-1800s. James McCririck was the son of William McCririck, a gunmaker from the same town where he raised his son James. Very little is out there regarding his father William, other than he is credited with the invention of the screw propellor for boats and ships. James was born in Galston in 1813, likely his mother’s hometown. He worked for his father prior to being recorded a trading as a gun maker in Ayr in 1841, though his business was likely established a few years earlier. James McCririck specialized in making percussion rifles and shotguns from the early 1830s onward.
