SCARCE Antique REMINGTON-SMOOT New Model .38 Rimfire SPUR TRIGGER Revolver
1880s “WILD WEST” Spur Trigger
Here we present an antique Remington-Smoot New Model No. 3 Revolver in .38 Rimfire, made circa 1882 in Ilion, New York. One of the finest made belt or pocket-model revolvers of the post-Civil War years, the Remington-Smoot revolvers were a direct competitor of the Colt “New Line” of revolvers. The Remington featured an unusual design in which the frame, barrel and ejector housing were all one piece, this making for an extremely strong and durable design that withstood hard use. The years of production were 1878 to 1888 with approximately 25,000 examples manufactured. This revolver was designed with the armed public in mind, being pocket-sized and holding 5 shots of .38 Rimfire. It is a medium to small frame revolver with an open loading gate and an ejector rod, which many other revolvers in this size-class lacked.
The overall condition is near fine. Strong and tight action. The nickel refinish is virtually complete. Bright bore with nice rifling. Both grips are firm with sharp checkering. A truly beautiful piece to add some more shine to the collection!
