Product Description
SCARCE Antique METROPOLITAN ARMS COMPANY Navy Model .36 Cal. Revolver c1865
Quality Copy of the COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY
Here we present an antique Metropolitan Arms Company Navy Percussion Revolver, made circa 1865, in New York City. Colt was one of the primary recipients for small arms contracts during the American Civil War, mostly selling many tens of thousands of their 1860 Army and 1851 Navy models. The company was also still producing lines of civilian arms to meet the demands of the home front and those soldiers wanting to privately purchase their own side arms.
Metropolitan Arms Co. began making a near copy of the Colt Model 1851 Navy in 1864, the year much of the Colt factory burned to the ground. The initial production was completely unmarked aside from serial numbers, while others were marked for the Union Arms Company. This one is marked Metropolitan and with the beautiful cylinder scene of the Battle of New Orleans.
The overall condition is fine. Original blued finish and a crisp cylinder scene. The action is excellent. The bore is in great shape with sharp rifling. The grip is solid. Numbers match. A difficult Civil War era revolver to find, especially in this condition!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-1/2 inches in length.
Caliber: .36 percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
