SCARCE Antique C.S. SHATTUCK .32 Caliber Rimfire SWING OUT Cylinder Revolver
1 of 3000 w/LINCOLN and GARFIELD Hard Rubber Grips
Here we present an antique C. S. Shattuck Swing Out Cylinder Pocket Revolver, made circa the 1880s in Hatfield, Massachusetts. This little revolver has a front blade sight and a notch rear sight. The hard rubber grips are monogrammed and have President Lincoln and President Garfield on them—two American Presidents who were assassinated. According to Flayderman, “There is an estimate of a few thousand total production” of this revolver.
These pocket-sized revolvers and many like them were made by various companies such that the price easily undercut better known and established companies like Colt. As a result, many of Colt’s similar lines were shut down for their inability to compete. During a time when many, if not most people carried a firearm, these affordable little revolvers were small enough to conceal and carry, yet provide some level of protection or peace of mind, even when the town did not allow firearms within its limits.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish and case colors on the hammer. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The presidential themed grips are in great shape. A really nice, scarce, and unusual piece!
