SCARCE 1 of 625 Antique JOSIAH ELLS Bar Hammer .31 Perc. Revolver CIVIL WAR
RARE FIRST MODEL Engraved Antebellum Revolver
Here we present an engraved antique First Model Josiah Ells Patent Bar Hammer Percussion Revolver, made in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania circa 1857-59 with a total production run of only 625 revolvers. This percussion Bar Hammer revolver marked Josiah Ells entry into the pistol-making business in early 1857. The First Model revolvers all featured an “open top” frame. The cylinders were offered in 5 or 6 shots. The marking on the left side of the bar hammer reads “ELLS PATENT” with “AUG. 1 1854” on the right. These little revolvers are extremely rare with so few being made.
The overall condition is good. Excellent action. The bore is dim with thin rifling. Grips show use and remain solid.
