ROYAL NEPALESE Brunswick Style Smoothbore PERCUSSION Carbine SWORD BAYONET
Musket Hand Made in Nepal
Here we present an antique Royal Nepalese Brunswick Pattern Percussion Musket, which is a copy of a British Brunswick rifle. About 12,000 of these were hand made in Nepal between 1840 and 1860. There were two distinct versions, a “light” pattern that weighed approximately 7.5 pounds, and a version that was more similar to the standard Brunswick rifle that weighed a little over 9 pounds.
The Brunswick rifle is a large caliber muzzle-loading percussion rifle manufactured for the British Army at the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield in the early 19th century. Its name is derived from the historical German state of Brunswick because the British were experimenting with Hanoverian percussion cap technology during the period Great Britain and Hanover had the same head of state.
A large stockpile of such weapons was found in Nepal in the not so distant past. This one has the same style of bayonet lug as the British version with Nepalese markings throughout.
The overall condition is good. Robust action. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example has maintained a solid stock with average wear, dents, and dings. The bayonet is in good shape .
