Product Description

REVOLUTIONARY WAR Era EUROPEAN MARTIAL FLINTLOCK Pistol 18th Century .57cal

With Bust on the Pommel

Here we present an antique European Martial Flintlock, made circa the early-to-mid-18th Century, possibly in France. This pistol bears strong resemblance to the pistol portrayed in George C. Neumann’s The History of Weapons of the American Revolution page 180. Neumann notes that this pistol was in the Morristown National Historical Park Collection at the time of publishing and he notes that it is a French Cavalry Pistol. Each of these pistols has a 14-1/2” barrel with an S-shaped sideplate and Crown proof. Full length stock. This one is in .57 caliber and has a bust on the bottom of the pommel.

The American colonists used a vast array of weapons due to their not having robust domestic manufacturing capabilities. Many of the weapons they used were made by small shops and even more were imported from Britain and mainland Europe, especially France, who would first lend support and materiel before getting involved themselves.

The overall condition is good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock has a small repair above the tail of the lock as well as under the forestock at the muzzle; otherwise solid. A large and impressive pistol from the 18th Century!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 14-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .57 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
