Nice Turn of the Century Fowling Gun
Here we present a C&R Engraved and Relief Carved Wilmont Gun Company Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Shotgun made by Henri Pieper around the turn of the 20th Century in Liege, Belgium. Henri Pieper was a German born gunmaker in Belgium. He began in Liege in 1866 under the business name “Anciens Etablissements Pieper”. The rapid growth of his early business was party due to an excellent decision to purchase a barrel factory in Nessonvaux. Some of Remington’s finest double shotguns of the time have the maker’s mark of “HP” on them from this factory. Henri Pieper was well known for making and importing shotguns to American hardware stores, mail-order houses, and gun shops in the United States between 1893 and 1914. This would have been primarily a sporting firearm designed for hunting fowl.
