RARE SIMEON NORTH USN Model 1808 NAVY FLINTLOCK Pistol WAR OF 1812 Antique
Early American U.S. Sidearm with Belt Hook!
Here we present an antique Simeon North U.S. Contract Model 1808 Flintlock Pistol, manufactured between 1808-1810 in Middletown, Connecticut. The Model 1808 pistols are among the rarest of all U.S. martial pistols with an estimated 3,000 total. These were the pistols in use aboard US Naval ships at the time of the War of 1812.
Simeon North’s name is perhaps the most well-known of any of the period arms contractors to collectors and students of early arms making. One of the reasons for this awareness is the availability of published material. At least four books have been written featuring North and he has been mentioned in numerous publications. Simeon North was one of the key American martial arms manufacturers from the early national period into the early 1840s and was one of the key figures in the development of interchangeable parts manufacturing. These pistols would have seen use in multiple conflicts that would have included this piece during its service life. Those would have included the War of 1812, the Seminole Wars, the Pawnee Expedition, the Mexican-American War, and even the American Civil War.
The overall condition is near fine. Refinished in brown. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid throughout. A rare opportunity to own an official US Navy handgun from the War of 1812!
