Rare Antique MARLIN No. 32 Standard 1875 REVOLVER with Lovely DeGRESS GRIPS
Engraved with Custom Figured Grips in 1870s
Here we present an antique DeGress Edition of the Marlin No. 32 Standard 1875 Revolver, made circa 1877 in New Haven, Connecticut. Marlin may well have ultimately become known for their rifles, but the company was also busy making practical defensive revolvers in the late-19th Century. This example got special treatment by the dealer known as Wexell & DeGress, who purchased this revolver for resale. They had offices both in New York City as well as Mexico City. But first the company engraved the piece throughout—you will notice the wolf’s head on each side of the frame, mouth open and emitting the floral scroll engraving that makes up the balance—and installed some of their famous custom cast grips that are highly figured with a goddess with tambourine on the right side and vining, leafy scrollwork throughout. This revolver bears a primarily nickel finish with blued accents on the cylinder and ejector rod under the barrel. There are hints of gold finish on the grips and on the back of the hammer. This was not your every day pocket revolver and they remain extremely desirable in the collector market today!
The overall condition is fine. The action is functional. The bore is dim with good rifling. The numbers match and the engravings are sharp. This is simply a jewel of a 19th Century revolver! A beautiful piece of art.
