RARE Antique HOPKINS & ALLEN “DICTATOR” .31 Cal. Percussion POCKET Revolver
With GREAT CYLINDER SCENES
Here we present an antique Hopkins & Allen “DICTATOR” Percussion Revolver, made circa 1869-72 with only 1,000 of these manufactured. This was actually a successor to Thomas Bacon’s Pocket Revolver, having a few changes, but mainly rebranded as the “DICTATOR” after Bacon’s operation was acquired by Hopkins & Allen. The cylinder features 5 distinct scenes in scrolled ovals including: a federal eagle with a clutch of arrows, an axe leaning against a barrel, a Native American brave, a dog, and a bear. Like other revolvers of this size, it was meant to serve as a concealable self-defense revolver.
These rare little revolvers are classified as a “3rd Model Bacon” Pocket Model revolver as it was made by Hopkins and Allen after they took over the Bacon firm in 1867. It is a 5-shot, .31 caliber with an unfluted cylinder. This is a hard revolver to find in any condition, much less one as sharp as this one.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish and great hunter/game cylinder scene panels. The action is excellent. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The numbers match. The grip is solid. This is a rare revolver in uncommonly good condition!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4 inches.
Caliber: .31 Percussion
