RARE Antique CIVIL WAR Remington-Beals 3rd Model Percussion POCKET REVOLVER
Only About 1,000 Manufactured Ilion, New York
Here we present an antique Remington-Beals Third Model Pocket Revolver, manufactured circa 1859-1860 at the Remington Armory in Ilion, New York. Fordyce Beals (1807-1870) was a firearm engineer who worked both for the Whitneyville Armory and then the Remington Armory in the mid-1850s. During his time at Remington, he developed what would become the Remington-Beals 1st Model, a 5-shot pocket revolver which appeared in mid-1856. Though this design allowed Remington to break into the civilian gun market, it was more prominent as a revolver that saw service with both sides of the American Civil War. The gun’s design is typical of the period. The grip is integral and covered in wood for comfort, and the solid frame added robustness to the design. Its compact dimensions were respectable, especially with discerning buyers seeking concealment for their firearms.
There were approximately 1,000 of these handy little pocket revolvers manufactured over the two-year production run.
The overall condition is very good. Good bore for age with nice rifling. The action is functional—the hand spring is a bit weak but if the barrel is tilted down slightly the hand will reliably revolve the cylinder. Etched cylinder. Both grips are in good shape, some chipping on the left and right butt.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4 inches.
