Ramsay Sutherland BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK Musket
3rd Pattern Made Circa 1820 for the New Brunswick Militia
Here we present an antique Ramsay Sutherland 3rd Pattern Brown Bess Flintlock Musket, made in Birmingham circa the 1820s for the New Brunswick Militia in British Canada. This example has the original 39-1/4″ barrel with post 1813 Birmingham proofs. These militia muskets were ordered by the New Brunswick government council to replace the depleted Tower Muskets that were originally issued at the start of the New Brunswick Militia. The makers used a combination of used surplus and new made parts for these muskets. The original flintlock looks to have had the original tower and crown ground off and over stamped with London and the “RAMSAY SUTHERLAND” names. This piece retains its original sling swivels and overall remains complete and original.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish and patina. The bore is smooth and dusty. The action is excellent.
Here is a nice example of a scarce and desirable New Brunswick Militia Brown Bess Flintlock Musket!
