Product Description
Pre-World War II NAZI German Mauser “s/42” Code 1936 Dated Model 98 Rifle
Nazi Germany Third Reich Infantry Rifle!
Here we present a C&R Nazi German Mauser s/42 Code Model 98 Rifle manufactured in 1936. In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles.
Manufactured relatively early during the pre-World War II period of German re-armament, this Mauser 98 bears the “S/42” code over the “1936” date on the receiver ring, along with a set of “eagle/63” and “droop eagle” inspection marks. The barrel is fitted with the standard blade and tangent sights, and matching numbers are present on multiple components. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock, marked “WaA63” on the buttstock, with a flat steel buttplate and a leather sling.
The overall condition is good+. The action is strong all around. The bore is bright. All marks are clear and legible. The numbers match with the exception of the bolt. German eagles can be seen on the right side of the barrel. The barrel is dated “1936”. Stock is solid. There is a graft at the toe of the butt stock. A great example of the “everyman’s” rifle from the German Wermacht’s perspective!
