Personalized PARSONS & CO. Antique U.S. M1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER Sword
Presented to CAPT. JOHN G. COOKSON w/SCABBARD
Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer’s Sword made by Parsons & Company and presented to “Capt. John G. Cookson.”. This model was regulation during the American Civil War and for a time afterwards. It features a rather narrow, straight blade with patriotic etchings. The ricasso is marked for Parsons & Co. The hilt is gilt cast brass with national symbols throughout, the centerpiece of which is the hand guard with the federal eagle clutching arrows and olive branch. The grip is embossed leather with a gilt braided wire wrap. The scabbard likewise has decorative cast brass portions.
The overall condition is good. Nicely etched blade. A slight wiggle can be felt in the grip and hand guard. Both the blade and scabbard are inscribed. Legible markings.
This is an extremely handsome piece made sometime during or after the American Civil War.
Overall Length: 36 inches
