Back Action ALBANY, NEW YORK Long Rifle
Here we present an antique R. Bebee Back Action Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century in Lansingburgh, New York. Records show that Bebee was active gunmaker in Albany, New York between 1846 and 1849. In 1900 Lansingburgh became part of the city of Troy, which has close ties to the nearby cities of Albany and Schenectady, forming a region popularly called the Capital District.
This rifle features superior aesthetics to include engraved German silver, brass, and iron décor and a part-octagon, part-round barrel. There are cheek rests on each side of the stock, each set with a large animal figure: a dog on the right and a stag on the left. It also includes double set triggers. The top of the barrel is signed by the maker.
