ORNATE Antique MEDITERANEAN Flintlock Pistol Naval PIRATE Military Sidearm
Early 19th Century Pistol with JOSEPH MANTON Lock
Here we present an antique Ottoman Flintlock Pistol with a Joseph Manton lock, made circa the early-19th century. Pistols like these were commonly used around the Mediterranean in the 18th and early 19th Centuries. The lock and perhaps other parts are European in origin while the cast hardware is in the Ottoman fashion. The lock may have been traded or perhaps this pistol was made of scavenged parts!
This would have been like those weapons carried by Tripolitan pirates when the young United States sent the Marines to take care of them. This is a large pistol used for fighting but it was also a status symbol with its engravings in the stock. “JOSEPH MANTON/ LONDON” is engraved on the lock.
The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape for its age. The stock is solid all around and the hardware is seated firmly. Here is a beautiful piece of history for display in the collection.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 11 inches.
Caliber: .69 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
