Non-Regulation AMERICAN MILITARY Officer’s Style Sword w/BRASS SCABBARD
Officer’s Sword Possibly Imported from Europe
Here we present an antique Civil War Era Non-Regulation American Military Officer’s Style Sword, made circa the late 1850s to the early 1860s. The blade is 34 inches with an overall length of 40-1/2 inches. This sword would possibly have been used in the American Civil War and the Spanish American war later in the century.
Some of these types of swords were produced by various German makers and exported here for sale by military goods dealers selling to officers, who were obliged to acquire their own arms, uniforms, and equipment. This has an iron hilt and brass scabbard, making it the weapon preferred by some officers for service in the field.
The overall condition is good. This example has a solid hilt. Straight blade, and the finish maintains a light shimmer. The brass scabbard is in good shape all around.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
