Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Shotgun, manufactured in 1917 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1897 was a superior slide-action exposed hammer shotgun that was specifically designed for the new smokeless powder. Winchester manufactured just shy of one million Model 1897 shotguns, with the production taking place from July 1897 to September 1957. The Model 1897 was offered in a variety of grades: standard Field; Fancy; Standard Trap; Special Trap; Pigeon; Tournament; Brush; Riot and Trench Gun. The 20” barrel Riot and Trench Guns were especially desirable for Military and Law enforcement use. The Winchester Model 1897 became the most popular exposed-hammer, slide-action shotgun in history.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent. The bore is bright and smooth. The walnut stock is solid and shows signs of honest and careful use.
