Nice ENGRAVED Antique SMITH & WESSON .32 DA Revolver NICKEL w/PEARL GRIP
Mid-1890s 4th Model Self Defense Revolver
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson 4th Model .32 Double Action Revolver, made circa 1896 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Smith & Wesson Fourth Models were produced between 1883 and 1909 with a total production of approximately 239,600 examples. Examples serial numbered under 209,300 are considered to be antique, with this gun serial numbered “207696”. As mentioned above, this revolver was chambered for the .32 S&W cartridge and was usually equipped with a 3” or 3-1/2” barrel. They were fitted with a 5-shot fluted cylinder and were either blue finished or nickel plated. They came with a top break design and round butt. The grips were either checkered or floral embossed hard rubber with the S&W monogram. The serial number ranged from 43406 to 282999. This model was quite similar in appearance to the Third Model, except the trigger guard is oval shaped instead of squared back as in the previous models.
These were petite and handy little guns that chambered 5 cartridges, perfect for the pocket and enough to get out of most scrapes. With gangsters, and career criminals running rampant, this example would have been the “pocket advantage” a person needed.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish and case colors. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. Mother of pearl grips remain solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
