Product Description

NICE 1932 mfg. COLT OFFICIAL POLICE .38 Special Double Action C&R Revolver

“L.P.D.” POLICE Marked Revolver Used by POLICE FORCE

Here we present a C&R Colt Official Police Double Action Revolver, made in 1932 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1907 through 1969 in Hartford, Connecticut with over 1,000,000 revolvers built. As the 20th century began, police departments across America gradually started moving away from the older .32 caliber revolvers that had long been their standard issue. Instead, many switched to the more powerful .38 caliber models.

In 1908, Colt launched a new revolver called the “Army Special.” This sleek and modern design, chambered in the popular .38 Special, quickly caught the attention of law enforcement agencies and became their service revolver of choice. To better connect with police forces, Colt rebranded it as “Colt’s Official Police” in 1927. Over the years, this revolver gained immense popularity, becoming one of the best-selling firearms for law enforcement and, by the 1950s, it had become a symbol of the typical police officer’s weapon. Remarkably, the Official Police was also adopted by various U.S. and allied military forces during World War II, highlighting its significance beyond civilian law enforcement.
