NEW ENGLAND Style Antique FLINTLOCK Long Rifle w/H. W. MORTIMER & Son Lock
ENGRAVED German Silver Hardware, BRITISH PROOFED Barrel
Here we present an antique New England Style H. W. Mortimer & Co. Marked Lock Flintlock Long Rifle made circa 1835 to 1855. Henry William Mortimer had a shop at 89 Fleet Street, London, from 1780 until 1835 when the business name was changed to H.W. Mortimer and Son from 1835 to 1855. H.W. Mortimer bore a Royal Warrant, having supplied weapons to the Royal family and was well known for supplying weapons to The Royal Mail Coaches. He was probably the best known and one of the most revered gun makers of the period. We believe this was made for export to the newly minted United States.
The overall condition is good. Dark patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows much use. There is an old repair at the rear most ram rod tube and an old sliver just behind that at the top of the fore stock. Replacement dowl for a ramrod. This piece has Birmingham proofs on the barrel and fancy engraved German silver trigger guard and butt plate.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 37 inches.
Caliber: .72 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
