Product Description
NEUSTATT BAVARIAN Antique Flintlock PISTOL Officer Gentleman .58 Cal SILVER
Elegant Mid-to-Late 18th Century Sidearm!
Here we present an antique Bavarian Flintlock Pistol in .58 caliber, made circa the mid-to-late 1700s. This is a gorgeous example of 18th Century artistry and craftmanship. This would have been equal parts status symbol and weapon. The stock is carved and fitted with engraved silver hardware throughout, much of the carving specifically done to accent the metalwork. This would have been fit for a gentleman and was the appropriate size and caliber for military use. The barrel bears the mark “A NEUSTATT” meaning that this pistol was made in Neustatt (also variously Neustat and Neustadt) in Bavaria (modern day Czech Republic). The lock is nicely engraved and bears the name “G. BANCHI”. Banchi was a lock maker and gunsmith in 18th Century Brescia, one of the oldest firearms making centers in the world.
The overall condition is very good. The action remains strong. The bore is smooth and dark. The engravings and carvings are clear. The stock shows that this was not an item that sat unused, but it remains in fabulous shape for its approximate 250 years. A fantastic piece of Old World craftsmanship!
