NAPOLEONIC WARS French CHARLEVILLE Model AN XIII Flintlock MILITARY Pistol
1814 Dated Cavalry Pistol
Here we present an antique French Pistolet modèle An XIII, or Pistol Model An 13, made at the Charleville Arsenal in France in 1814 with a production run between 1806 and 1814. This is the flintlock sidearm of the French Army of the Napoleonic era.
This model was manufactured at all four of the French Arsenals, Charleville, Maubeuge, Tulle, and St-Etienne. This pistol was made as a cavalry pistol for the mounted soldier on horseback. Over 300,000 of these pistols were made during their 8 year production run. This pistol was designed to equip mounted units, each horseman using two pistols. It was also used by the Navy. An improved version, known as the M1822, was produced after the Napoleonic Wars.
The overall condition is very good. The roundel on the left stock flat as well as the left side of the barrel are each dated “1814”. The action is strong. The bore is dark and smooth. The stock is solid throughout and showing use. A handsome piece!
