MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR / CIVIL WAR Antique U.S. Ames Model 1841 NAVAL Cutlass
One of 6,600 Produced between 1841-46
Here we present an antique U.S. N.P. Ames Model 1841 Naval Cutlass, made circa the mid-1840s, in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Adopted in late 1841, this model cutlass was made by the Ames Mfg. Co. until 1846. In all a total of 6,600 cutlasses were produced. These saw service through the Mexican and Civil Wars. From all the research I’ve found, all of the Model 1841s were made by Ames.
The overall condition is good. Dark blade patina. Solid hilt. “148” is marked on the hilt with 6 uniform punch dots. The Ames marking are worn off, but the measurements are consistent with the Model 1841 Ames sword.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
